This book isn’t so much about the zombies, it’s about getting to know the main characters, and setting up a much longer tale to be told. Kirkman does a good job of setting the scene of a zombie filled world, where the only people known to survive at this point are the characters he has created. While I’m aware that the story will evolve as the books continue, this evaluation is on the first book alone. Can he help everyone make it out of this chaos alive? He suddenly finds himself becoming familiarized with this new society, and in the process of learning to survive becomes a leader to this new group of people. Finding himself immersed in a sea of zombies, he is rescued by another survivor and taken to his “camp” where Rick is reunited with his family. A neighbor of his tells him that people were getting sent to the major cities for help, so Rick sets off to Atlanta to hopefully find his wife and son. As he escapes the zombie-infested hospital, he goes searching for his family. A sickness has swept the globe, causing a zombie apocalypse and causing the dead to rise and feed on the living. 144 pagesĪfter getting shot on the job, small town cop Rick Grimes wakes up in the hospital, but not to the world that he was familiar with a short time ago.
